That is pretty much what this show was, Big and Gigantic... I wasn't expecting a turnout like that. But I guess I dont listen to enough house music and drum & bass. I also should have taken a look at the tour schedule more closely, as they were selling out venues in Florida, Atlanta and Virginia. I was expecting to walk in there and shoot a DJ and a drummer on a stage with maybe a hundred people in the crowd... I was wrong I walked into a crowded venue with no less than 600 people getting their dance on, Glowsticks in hand might I add. I had never shot this genre of music before, other than night clubs with strict dress codes. I walked into the Township, girls wearing neon spandex, tutu's, and tank tops or sports bra's, and dudes wearing whatever they happened to throw on.
I got in, walked into the auditorium to the stage where this large custom structure was on stage. which happened to belong to Big Gigantic. I shot the opeing acts, which included a local guy named Ben G, Coyote kisses, The Dean's List, and 3LAU. After 3LAU, the lights dropped and that large infrastructural lit up the arena with motion graphic LED lights. Hard hitting bass from the subs shook and vibrated my feet while trying to shoot!! The drummer, very energetic was putting down to pretty technical drum fills. And the DJ pulled out a saxophone and started laying down a solo!! It was amazing to see 2 guys that who were so musically inclined take something like Dance, dubstep and Drum&Bass and add to it by doing live drums, and amazing saxophone playing!! The light panel stage kit went on beat with the music and even did a demo of pac-man! These guys are the real deal! I had an amazing time and i hope to be able to shoot and work with these guys again in the future!! We have a link to their tour schedule up so check it and go see them when they come near!!
